Haida Gwaii Scooter Rentals
Haida Owned and Operated (HO2) Graduate

Aileen Hans has always called Haida Gwaii home and is enthusiastic to share her knowledge of unique and beautiful locations with visitors. When she’s not working, Aileen loves to explore and take in the beauty of Haida Gwaii. She enjoys hiking, fishing, strolling the beaches, ATV’ing, boating, paddle-boarding, food gathering, harvesting, and preserving. Aileen is proud to be from Haida Gwaii and appreciates all the activities and experiences the island has to offer.

As a passionate and motivated entrepreneur, Aileen appreciates the freedom and flexibility that comes with running her own business. Through hard work and dedication, she was able to bring her dream of being an entrepreneur to life by incorporating her favourite activities of Haida Gwaii. Aileen started Haida Gwaii Scooter Rentals after noticing the local tourism industry lacked public transportation services in Skidegate, British Columbia. Her venture provides unparalleled access for tourists and locals alike to enjoy the majestic beauty and pristine nature of Haida Gwaii on their own terms.

Haida Gwaii Scooter Rentals offers fun and reliable way to travel around the island from the back of a motorized two-seated Yamaha Zuma scooter. Conveniently located in Skidegate near the BC Ferry Terminal, Haida Gwaii Scooter Rentals allows customers to explore the incredible landscape and scenery on the island from a new perspective. Haida Gwaii Scooter Rentals offers flexibility in travel by providing rentals on an hourly, daily or weekly basis to allow visitors to make the most out of their time. There is also the option and freedom to explore Haida Gwaii individually or as a part of a guided tour. With every rental, Aileen shares her experience and knowledge of Haida Gwaii, providing unique locations to visit and helpful local advice.

After hearing about the Haida Owned and Operated (HO2) Program through friends and on the radio, Aileen joined the program to further her knowledge and understanding about being an entrepreneur and to become a “professional student”. She expressed appreciation for the “fabulous curriculum” that provided practical knowledge and skills that she could directly use to start and run her business. She also enjoyed the variety of professors that shared their expertise and delivered the course content. By consistently asking questions, she used the professor’s knowledge as a tool to improve and enhance the skills needed to successfully start and run a business.

Aileen explained one of her favourite parts of the Haida Owned and Operated Program was the bond she created with the other students in the program. She still stays in touch with many of the participates and they often talk about their experiences since graduating from HO2. Aileen felt the dream of starting and running their own business unified the students, allowing them to better relate and support each other on their entrepreneurial journeys.

Throughout the program, Aileen was eager to learn and make the most out of her education. With her idea of a scooter rental business in mind, she worked to create and complete a viable business plan that she could put into action. By the end of the HO2 Program, Aileen felt she had the knowledge, confidence, and skills to take her business to the world. On May 8, 2019, Aileen launched Haida Gwaii Scooter Rentals and continues to operate it today. Aileen’s ambition and drive still guide her in operating her current business and as she keeps her eye out for future opportunities in Haida Gwaii.

We are honored to have the opportunity to work with Aileen as she continues on her entrepreneurial journey. We are excited to see what the future has in store for Haida Gwaii Scooter Rentals and Aileen. For more information about Aileen and Haida Gwaii Scooter Rentals visit the Facebook page.
