Programs

The Aboriginal Canadian Entrepreneurs (ACE) Program focuses on providing you with the tools you need to turn your interests, skills and passion into a viable business to benefit you, your family and your community. A program usually includes 16 two-day workshops providing students with hands-on entrepreneurial teaching. Programs usually also include 16 weeks of coaching and mentorship from educators and members of the community to help you take the steps to owning and operating your own business contributing to your community. NW-ACE 

Northwest Aboriginal Canadian Entrepreneurs

(NW-ACE™) is a partnership between Tribal Resources Investment Corporation (TRICORP) and the University of Victoria’s Gustavson School of Business.

Founded in 2013, the NW-ACE program takes place in venues in Northern B.C., rotating locations between Prince Rupert and Terrace so we can provide you with top class entrepreneurial education in your community.

There is no tuition fee for the program. We are fortunate that the cost of the program is covered by the generosity of our program partners.

The NW-ACE Program is taught with a combination of experiential learning, visual learning, coaching and mentoring with a focus on your individual needs. The program offers fun activities designed to give you hands-on experience through practical business activities and challenges to ensure you have the tools to take the next steps in managing your own business.

Ace for Artists

The Artist-based Aboriginal Canadian Entrepreneurs™ (A-ACE) is a fully funded Artist Summer Residency Program of interest to practicing Aboriginal Artists in BC.

Completion of the A-ACE program provides a credit path with advanced standing in Coast Mountain College. The A-ACE program focus is on developing business and marketing skills while providing a unique opportunity to work with successful Aboriginal artists and entrepreneurs.

LD-ACE 

Lakes Division Canadian Entrepreneurs

LD-ACE is the sister program to the NW-ACE running in Northern BC. NW-ACE is a collaborative of Tribal Resources Investment Corporation (TRICORP), the Gustavson School of Business, and representatives from Aboriginal communities, industry and government. The partnership provides Aboriginal Canadians in Northwest British Columbia with the skills, knowledge and mentorship to start their own businesses.

The program takes place in venues around the greater Enderby, BC area, rotating locations so we can provide you with top class entrepreneurial education in your community.

There is no tuition fee for the program. We are fortunate that the cost of the program is covered by the generosity of our program partners.

Haida Owned and Operated

Haida Owned and Operated is an ACE™ program designed and delivered on Haida Gwaii. The Haida Owned and Operated program is a collaborative effort between the Council of the Haida Nation, the Old Masset Village Council, the Skidegate Band Council, HaiCo, TRICORP, and the Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria. Haida Owned and Operated is focused on providing experiential learning to Haida entrepreneurs on Haida Gwaii for more Haida Owned and Operated businesses that will further the strength of the Haida Gwaii economy. 

The program takes place in venues on Haida Gwaii, rotating locations between Skidegate and Old Masset so we can provide you with top class entrepreneurial education in your community.

Nisga’a ACE

The Nisga’a Aboriginal Canadian Entrepreneurs™
(Nisga’a-ACE) is the right program at the right time with the right partner. It is the right program designed to provide you with the skills to start a business, allowing you full economic participation as an Aboriginal Business owner plugging in to the many exciting projects under way in our traditional territories.

Halalt-ACE

Xeláltxw (Halalt) is a small vibrant community with opportunities to develop a thriving Indigenous tourism economy; strengthening community by sharing authentic, memorable and enriching experiences.

Beginning in August, Halalt Tourism Entrepreneurial Skills Development will deliver a unique program that provides prospective self-employed entrepreneurs with the skills, knowledge and mentorship needed to successfully start a business in Indigenous and eco-tourism, without foregoing traditional Indigenous values.

Training will run from August 24, 2019 to March 31, 2020. Four training modules will be delivered in Halalt with a Learning Enhancement Officer providing business coaching, cultural and personal support. The Entrepreneurial Mentorship will extend an additional 12 weeks as students secure their resources and launch their ventures, targeting year-round service and niche markets.

Aboriginal Tourism has boomed around the Salish Sea in recent years. Halalt Territory includes Willy Island as well as the Chemainus/Westholme reserve on the lower Chemainus River. This area offers rich opportunities to experience historical sites, cultural traditions, beautiful nature and wilderness adventures.

ACE-IT

(Internet & Technology)

The ACE-IT Program, adapted from the Aboriginal Canadian Entrepreneur (ACE) Program and delivered by the University of Victoria Gustavson School of Business (UVicGSB), is designed with a strong focus on balancing cutting-edge concepts with practical, experiential learning to explore entrepreneurship in a meaningful and culturally appropriate way. 

The program takes place in Westbank, Kelowna, and launched in mid September, 2019. The primary goal of the ACE-IT program is increasing the number of Indigenous-owned businesses that will tap into local economic opportunities and provide sustainable employment for community members.

Program content is structured around 6 integrated courses, each providing modules that are 5 days in length, as well as an introduction and wrap-up days, for a total of 32 learning days. Each module will consist of instruction and coaching, where participants will focus on applying their new knowledge to their venture.

The program content will be delivered face to face in the Kelowna area by a team of professors from UVicGSB and industry-leading experts in social media, marketing, website development and e-commerce.
